MicroStation Best Practices

You’re invited to join NCLUG on Tuesday, March 19th for our next luncheon!

NCLUG is excited to present a panel of MicroStation "experts" to talk about MicroStation best practices.  We will cover topics like CADD requirements, workflow, and training.  This interactive luncheon will be open to questions and discussions.  As a User Group, we want to open the dialog and get to the heart of the real issues we are facing as users.  We hope you can join us for this stimulating event as we try to fulfill our mission of sharing ideas, enhancing user skills, continuing dialog among members and vendors, and influencing the direction of MicroStation and related products and services.

NCLUG is thrilled to present the following Panel speakers:

Rande Robinson – NCDOT (Moderator)
David Waller, PE – Florence & Hutcheson
Oak Thammavong – NCDOT Roadway Design Unit
Mike Barkasi– Bentley

MicroStation – Pick a Lecture
Print Organizer/Output Devices:
Print Organizer is a batch print utility designed for printing and reprinting sets of files, models, and Project Explorer links. Using Print Organizer, you can set print definition properties per item. This allows you to specify different pen tables or use multiple workspaces in the same print set. Key topics will include sheet models, print styles, and PDF.
Or
LiDAR and New Data Collection Techniques:
This presentation details how to incorporate mobile and aerial LiDAR technologies into your project delivery process. Learn how LiDAR is acquired, processed and delivered using MicroStation V8i and GEOPAK. See how the project data was scanned and what the results are. This session will show you how fast and easy it is to overcome those challenges using the geospatial capabilities of MicroStation.
Signing PDF’s Electronically:
Learn from an Adobe expert the wide range of capabilities that work with data in Adobe's PDF format, including electronic signatures. This lecture will review the basic concepts of Acrobat and then proceeds to document security, where you will learn about password protection, digital signatures, and making certified PDFs. You will also learn about redaction and how to prepare the files for digital output, creating forms from existing PDFs with Acrobat tools and creating forms from scratch using LiveCycle Designer.
Or
Machine Grading:
There’s a lot of buzz today about GPS Machine Control. We are seeing GPS systems integrated into the design of bulldozers, excavators, farm equipment, skiffs, pavers, and motor graders produced by most of the major equipment manufacturers. The reason GPS machine control technology is as vital as diesel is to contractors looking to get the job done economically. GPS machine control is the central component of any complete stake less, automatic grading, surveying, and excavating system. Contractors and Construction companies who use GPS machine control systems are utilizing the technology to streamline work all the way from the head office down to the dirt mover. Learn how this new machine control technology and it relates back to the engineering firms.
Auto TURN:
Auto TURN 8.1 is a comprehensive CAD vehicle turn and swept path analysis software, its used by AEC professionals to help evaluate standard design and specialized vehicle maneuvers for all types of roadway, highway, and site design projects. Together with intelligent design features, practical interface, and guidelines from standards such as AASHTO for turn radii, transition curves, super-elevation, and lateral friction, makes Auto TURN the world’s most widely used program of its kind.
Or
SS3 Civil:
Get a closer look at the newest version of MicroStation V8i and learn what users are saying about the innovations in the newest release. This session will highlight how MicroStation V8i (SELECT series 3) continues the tradition of Delivering high-value updates and innovations to improve productivity and workflows in your organization.
MicroStation – Pick a Lecture
Workspace/DGN Lib:
Designed for MicroStation users and CAD administrators, this seminar will be a deep dive into the powerful capabilities of MicroStation workspaces and configurations. You will learn how to make the most of them to create the Optimal configurations for users and your projects. Key topics will include workspaces, configurations, and standards.
Or
Roundabout Design:
This presentation will provide an overview of the Roundabout tools along with the creation and editing of the Roundabout Template DGN file. We’ll add the roundabout to design geometry and finally edit the roundabout after placement. Lastly, we’ll review how roadway designer templates can facilitate the construction of the roundabout.
Project Explorer:
This innovative addition to the MicroStation interface will revolutionize your design process in several Bentley applications. Access all project information easily and quickly. Find drawings, attach reference files, insert cells and print multiple drawings like you've never done before. This session will start with an introduction of Project Explorer and the main benefits. It will progress into more advanced capabilities and new enhancements introduced in MicroStation V8i SELECT Series 3.
Or
Intersection Design:
This presentation will walk you through the Roadway Designer process for designing and modeling an intersection. This isn't a black box tool where you wonder what you just did. This is real design for real engineers – interactive, visual, and accurate.
How to Utilize Bentley Resources:
One of Bentley’s best-kept secrets is learning the ins and outs of the software. As resources come in all shapes and sizes this session will point the user to long and short, free and paid workshops, training, and communities.  If you wanted to know how to get started, you’ll want to attend this presentation.
